ABOUT OUR PRESIDENT

PARAMENDRA KUMAR BHAGAT

Paramendra is a proud Madhesi from Janakpur. He has been a staunch fighter for Madhesi rights since his days at Budhanilkantha School. He devoted three years between high school and college to the same. During his education in United States as well, he has been at the fore front in defending and bringing madhesi plights to the fore. His academic brilliance is as unparalleled to his unrelenting pursuit for madhesi rights and dignity in Nepal.

President's Note

I believe Madhesis International should at the least be a organization that brings all Madhesis, no matter where in the world, together. I look forward to the opening of MI chapters, online and offline, all over the world. Please spread the word. I also feel federalism can be a common political platform for all Madhesis, no matter what political parties, if any, we might individually identify ourselves with.

The president as an opressed madhesi

Ethnic slurs, ethnic jokes, the exaggerated Madhesi way of speaking Nepali as is the staple of comedians in Kathmandu, the bias of a school administration on matters judicial, or in appointments, the social prejudices of one's classmates, schoolmates, teachers, strangers on the street, clerks in government offices, physical violence, the taunts for the Madhesi streetvendors in the valley. The statistics: no Madhesi prime minister ever in history, only 80 of the 205 parliamentary seats for the Terai, less than 10% of the civil servants are Madhesi, less than 5% of the police, none in the army.
My personal experiences pale in comparison to those of the average Madhesi. I have been comparatively fortunate. But the struggle for Madhesi rights speaks to a major chunk of my identity directly. If we will not do it, some future generation will have to. Why wait?

Madhesi Hum Lenge Sau Mein Pachas.
